Module 4 Blog on Second Life

How is Second Life a disruptive technology?
Second Life is disruptive because it essentially emerged from nowhere and created a new way of thinking about how we can learn new concepts.
What technology or innovation did it displace?
Second Life definitely displaced the traditional classroom as a method for teaching individuals.
How many years do you think Second Life has left before another emerging technology or disruptive technology replaces it?
I expect Second Life or something like it will be around for quite some time.  Virtual worlds are a place for many to escape to from reality.
What are the social benefits of Second Life, and what might be the social implications of virtual worlds in your industry?
The largest benefit is that it allows manipulation of objects that are not bound by every day laws of physics.  The closest thing that is similar to this technology in my industry is the virtual desktop.  This allows users to not have to have a physical machine to log into but can use all of the same applications in a virtual space.
